James A. Sherer, Partner

James Sherer brings extensive litigation, eDiscovery and Information Law experience to the Redgrave LLP team, as well as a specialized focus in the areas of financial analysis, trial practice, information management, and data privacy. James’s work on Information Law combines an appreciation for client concerns with a case and project management background derived from both In-House Counsel and large-firm Litigation experience. James has also worked closely with Fortune 500 Legal and Records and Information Management departments, developing company-specific programs and helping those companies integrate new technologies into their practices.

Immediately prior to joining Redgrave LLP, James was In-House Counsel for a Fortune 40 company, and in addition to his work as a litigator, James was a member of the company’s Discovery Expertise and Legal Tech Steering Committees. In these positions, he helped direct the company’s eDiscovery, government lobbying, and Information Law efforts. His responsibilities in these roles also included working directly and significantly with the company’s information systems and records management functions to address important issues affecting records management, risk management, and eDiscovery.

Prior to working In-House, James spent five years as a Litigation Associate in New York City with two AmLaw 100 firms, focusing on white-collar criminal matters, SEC and NASD enforcement proceedings, the litigation of insurance coverage disputes, and large product liability cases involving the management of extensive document and electronically-stored information discovery.

James is a recognized Certified Information Privacy Professional (“CIPP”) of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (“IAPP”), and serves as a member of The Sedona Conference® Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production (“WG1”).

James holds a J.D. (Columbia University, 2002), a M.B.A. (Dean’s Letter, Class Valedictorian, Central Michigan University, 2009) and a B.A. (Class Honors, University of Michigan, 1999). He is licensed to practice law in New York, Michigan and the District of Columbia, as well as before the S.D.N.Y., E.D.N.Y., N.D.N.Y., W.D.N.Y., 2nd Circuit, Federal Circuit, and U.S. Supreme Courts.
