INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE:
Nick skillfully guides clients through every stage of discovery, including negotiations with opposing parties and third parties. Clients appreciate Nick’s ability to efficiently manage each step of their complex discovery process, and trust his reasonable and practical approach to litigation. Nick has achieved significant success across a wide range of discovery and other issues at all stages of litigation, including non-dispositive motions, motions for summary judgment, dismissal, and class certification, and mediation. He has experience deposing opposing parties and third parties, preparing witnesses for deposition, and working closely with consulting and testifying experts. In litigation, Nick excels at analyzing the facts involved and advocating for how they should be interpreted or enforced to obtain his clients’ desired goals.
Some of Nick’s representative successes in the area of eDiscovery include:
- Prevailed in discovery disputes regarding protection of confidential customer data and objections to corporate deposition notices in product liability matter
- Defeated multi-million dollar motion by third party seeking attorney fees associated with a discovery subpoena
- Serving as a key team member in In re McDermott International, Inc. (Bankr. S.D.Tex.), where Redgrave LLP acted as Discovery counsel for debtor, energy industry provider of engineering, construction, and installation services, restructuring $9.2 billion in prepetition debt
Nick’s past litigation successes include:
- Secured dismissal of all claims with prejudice at the pleading stage in a promissory estoppel and breach of contract matter relating to a land sale dispute
- Secured dismissal of all claims in multi-million dollar suit alleging fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and related claims in connection with funding of a start-up venture
- Earned asylum for multiple clients fleeing religious or political persecution
- Provided pro bono representation for animal shelter at all stages of litigation, including bench trial and settlement
Before joining Redgrave, Nick was an associate at Kirkland & Ellis. He also clerked in the Northern District of Indiana and the Northern District of Illinois, and externed at the Northern District of California and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington, handling orders for a variety of civil and criminal cases, including patent, environmental litigation, product liability, arbitration, tax, contract, consumer protection and constitutional matters.
Nick is proficient in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

EDUCATION:
Nick received his J.D. from Stanford Law School and his a B.A., cum laude, from Harvard University. During law school, he received the Stanford Law School Pro Bono Distinction award and the Stanford Law School Class Prizes for Outstanding Performance in: Civil Procedure; Antitrust; Copyright. Nick is admitted to practice in Illinois and Washington.
